Courtney Haas is a New York-based education attorney dedicated to helping families navigate special education, student rights, and school-related legal matters. She works collaboratively with parents and schools to support positive outcomes for students and their families. Courtney is licensed in state and federal court in New York.
Courtney founded the Law Office of Courtney L. Haas in 2018 after spending several years in both the nonprofit and private sectors serving as a social worker, mediator, special education teacher, and attorney. Her diverse professional background gives her a unique and comprehensive perspective on the educational system and the challenges families face.
Courtney brings personal insight to her practice as the parent of a child with a rare genetic disorder, having navigated the special education system both professionally and firsthand as a parent.
Outside of her legal practice, Courtney competes in HYROX events across the country and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Audrey Daniel is Senior Attorney at the Law Office of Courtney L. Haas, where she has been a member of the firm since October 2023. She brings more than twenty-five years of experience in the field of special education, combining her legal background with her extensive knowledge of educational practices and student needs.
Prior to joining the firm, Audrey served as an impartial hearing officer for more than nine years, presiding over matters involving special education disputes and related issues. Her background provides her with a unique perspective on the challenges faced by students, families, school districts, and educational professionals.
Audrey is admitted to practice law in New York and Connecticut, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. In addition to her legal credentials, she holds a Master of Science in Education and is certified in Special Education for all grade levels. Her practice experience also includes employment law, labor law, and family law.
Outside of work, Audrey enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing pickleball, and traveling.
Jeanne Small brings nearly 20 years of experience in special education and over seven years in advocacy, offering families both professional expertise and personal understanding. She holds a Master of Science in Childhood Education from Pace University and an Advanced Certification in Educational Leadership from Long Island University Post.
Jeanne’s career has spanned the special education classroom, impartial hearing representation for the New York City Department of Education, and ultimately parent advocacy. As a parent of three children, two of whom receive special education services, she understands firsthand the challenges families face navigating the special education system.
With empathy, insight, and a deep commitment to student success, Jeanne empowers families to feel informed, supported, and confident as they advocate for their children’s educational needs.
When Jeanne isn’t working, she finds joy in reading, crocheting, long walks and the hope filled sound of her children’s laughter.
Jennifer McKenzie is a bilingual legal assistant with more than four years of experience supporting clients and attorneys through every stage of the legal process. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and brings a strong foundation in clear communication, organization, and client service to her role.
Jennifer is passionate about helping people feel supported during what can often be an overwhelming and stressful time. Known for her patience, kindness, and attention to detail, she works closely with clients to ensure they feel informed, comfortable, and understood throughout their experience. Her bilingual skills allow her to effectively communicate with and assist a diverse range of clients, helping bridge language barriers and provide personalized support.
Jennifer believes that even the smallest acts of care and reassurance can make a meaningful difference. She is committed to creating a positive experience for every client by fostering trust, understanding, and open communication.
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys spending quality time with her family and making the most of life’s everyday moments. Whether she is trying something new or simply creating lasting memories with loved ones, she values experiences that bring people together.
